Keepsake Mixed Media Canvas

Welcome back to my 2nd Design Team Project where i created a keepsake mixed media canvas of my Dads well used art brushes from many years ago of which i have many a fond childhood memory of him creating huge canvas pieces in oils and acrylic which i think sparked my love for Arts in many forms, i hope this inspires you in some way to create a mixed media piece to be passed to future family for their inspiration one day.

I prepped the canvas by applying a coat of Finnabair Art Basics heavy white Gesso over the entire area, set aside to dry. Once dry I covered it with old book paper and tissue using Mod Podge, this was mainly to add texture to the base.

Now lets add the magic, i picked several metal pieces and other elements from my junk draw such as buttons, etc metal cogs, seed beads and just things that add the texture i wanted, and also added texture using some stencils and texture paste, once satisfied with the placement of my embellishments I glued them into place using E6000.

Once i was certain everything was going to stay there i then began to cover all the elements in Art Basics Heavy White Gesso, the wait begins for that to dry then it was time to lay down the colour.

I then grabbed a selection of Lindy Stamp gang sprays Cotton Candy Pink, Ghostly Gargoyle white, Tiffany lou Blue, and embossing powder to add texture and iridescence in Stardust Candy rose, Madonna Robe Blue, and some areas of paint in Prima Art Alchemy Opal Magic Pink Blue, and Aqua Rose, these can all be found in Faiths Store.

As i progressed i would then let colours dry and this continued for a few hours but i had so much fun, once i was happy with the depth of colours and shimmer i stopped and then lightly rubbed Inka Gold over some of the raised areas and added some iridescent Sequins here and there so add more wonder

This is the finished result, i was very pleased with the outcome and the gorgeous colours.

Well that's it for my 2nd Design Team Project i hope you enjoyed my creation and look forward to sharing more next time, meanwhile be sure to take a look at Faith's store for all these goodies and more.

Till then take care, always keep smiling and craft on….
